All students are grounded in flat work or basic dressage (walk, trot, canter) with the goal of learning to jump. Riders are mounted on our experienced, proven school horses. Our Academy Program is geared toward the beginner or novice rider. The ultimate goal for our academy students is to eventually graduate to leasing or purchasing their own pony or horse. This allows our students to progress beyond the beginner ring and onto the rated circuit to achieve goals like GHJA Medal Finals, Pony Finals, USHJA Zone Awards, and beyond!
Academy students are able to take a Patchwork lesson horse to a nearby, local horse show to get a taste of showing in the beginner ring in divisions like Walk/Trot/Canter and Groundrails. For the next step, we offer half-lease opportunities on quality ponies to help our students advance to divisions like Crossrails or Mini Hunter and achieve goals like year-end horse show circuit awards in the beginner ring.
Space and availability in our Academy Program is limited to ensure small lesson groups and individualized attention. Contact Janet, Hannah or Aimee to get started!
Safety is a major consideration at Patchwork Farm. Students are required to have their own appropriately fitted, approved riding helmet and boots. We are happy to recommend tack shops.
We believe that riding provides a unique opportunity for children to learn about responsibility, self reliance, compassion and goal setting. It has been our experience that our top riders are also the best achievers in school. Several of our students have received riding and academic scholarships to major universities.
The bonds formed at the barn are a powerful deterrent to the bad choices that many children make. Frankly, our riders are devoted and very busy at Patchwork Farm. Riding is a long term endeavor. We love being a part of our riders’ lives and appreciate the support and loyalty of our families. Come be a part of it!
